Urban Ambiance

The Urban Ambiance exhibition depicting the spirit and soul of cities around the world, opens this week in Texas at the Watson Studio Gallery. The show is from April 19th-23rd, and will have 51 images by 39 photographic and digital artists from USA, Canada and Belgium. The exhibit was juried by Lynne Eodice, Editor of Double Exposure Magazine and Carol Watson, Gallery Director. The collage of strip clubs that I took pictures of in Chile was chosen to be part. Very exciting! Glad I could bring a touch of South America to Johnson City.

Strip clubs in Chile are known as cafes con piernas, or cafes with legs. They especially sprinkle Santiago around the greasy motorcycle and automobile district downtown, but can be seen in other cities up and down the country, too. These particular images were taken in front of clubs that line the waterfront of a quaint little port town south of the capital known as Puerto Montt. The cafes are ubiquitous for their sexy female silhouettes and neon facades, luring customers in for a drink and live entertainment. I personally like when they are written in bad English, perhaps trying to emulate something more American or British, or maybe just to appeal to English-speaking travelers passing through.
